Caterina’s Story

Caterina's Story

Caterina met James through her work. As a teacher, they saw each other often when he would pick up his daughter after school. They started dating and soon found themselves facing an unplanned pregnancy.

When she found out she was pregnant, Caterina was conflicted. She was excited at first because she had always wanted to be a mother. In fact, she had been praying for that her entire life.

However, she was also afraid.  This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. She was unmarried. She didn’t know James very well.  And, she knew what it was like to grow up as the child of a single mom. If she couldn’t give her baby the life that he or she deserved, she thought it would be better to just not have the baby at all.

Because of these things, she also wanted an abortion.

James, on the other hand, did not want Caterina to have an abortion. When Caterina told him that she was making an appointment to get an abortion, James fell to his knees and cried.

Despite his concerns, Caterina had made up her mind. When she called a nearby abortion clinic, the staff told her that at just five weeks pregnant, it was too early for her to have an abortion. However, she was scared and determined, so she didn’t take no for an answer. As she pursued her search for an abortion, she instead found First Care Women’s Clinic.

At First Care, she would discover hope and the answers she was looking for all along.

During her appointment, our staff was able to confirm her pregnancy, but they were also able to give her the courage to choose life. How? By sharing truth. One of our nurses who met with Caterina shared…

“I had an abortion when I was your age. Now I have four kids and when they all stand together, I know there will always be one missing.”

These two sentences completely changed everything. They impacted Caterina’s life and saved the life of her unborn child when Caterina chose life that day. If it wasn’t for First Care, Caterina would have lived with the guilt of an abortion and would never have known the gift she was given in her baby boy. He is her greatest joy.
